If you do not have a working smoke detector and live in the City of Murfreesboro you can contact MFRD Administration at 615-893-1422 and get a free smoke detector installed by MFRD.

McFarland elected Mayor of Murfreesboro
Shane McFarland will trade his seat on the City Council for the mayor’s post after rolling to victory in Tuesday’s election.
McFarland captured 5,315 votes, 68 percent, to City Councilman Ron Washington’s 2,474, 31.7 percent, in the mayoral race with 31 of 31 precincts counted and early voting totals in.

| Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue hires new assistant chief |
MURFREESBORO — Kim Lawson, a veteran of Nashville Fire Department, has been named Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s new assistant chief of medical services, according to a news release.
Lawson, who recently retired from the Nashville Fire Department after 34 years, will join the Murfreesboro department May 5.

titled, “ Keeping Our Responders Safe For Duty “. The guest lecturer was Fire Chaplain Paul Trumpore, chaplain for the City of Knoxville Fire Department.

| Lightning strike believed to have started fire at family's home |
MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -A fire possibly started by lightning woke up a family and nearly a dozen young girls they were hosting for a slumber party in Murfreesboro early Saturday.
Crews were called to the Coley's home on Cherry Blossom Lane around 2:30 Saturday morning, just as storms and lightning were passing through.

| Crews rescue man after car plunges into Overall Creek |
MURFREESBORO — An unidentified man was rescued from the top of the car he was driving after it plunged off Northwest Broad Street into Overall Creek early Saturday morning.
"A car was behind him, saw him run off the road and called this in (to 9-1-1)." said Capt. Mark McCluskey of Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue.
