Murfreesboro Fire Department got "TUFF" last weekend — placing second in the paid fire department category of the seventh annual Tennessee Ultimate Firefighter Challenge.

The MFD team consisted of Capt. Terry Smith, firefighters Zachery Fleenor, Jonathan Parsons and Josh Parsons. They participated in the challenge at the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy in Bell Buckle on Sept. 25.

The TUFF Challenge required the team to compete against other state fire departments for bragging rights in competitions such as victim rescue, ventilation and climbing while showcasing the hard work and dedication of Tennessee's first responders.

TUFF Challenges included a high rise stair climb challenge, a hose hoist challenge, forcible entry challenge and victim rescue challenge. All proceeds collected at the event benefited the Tennessee Fallen Firefighter Memorial.
