MFRD Responds to Early Morning Apartment Fire

Murfreesboro, TN -- Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's District 8 and Engine 1 responded to an apartment fire at 1325 Journey Drive (The Grove Apartments) around 5:15 Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, crews had no fire or smoke showing. "When they located the top floor apartment in Building 7 and opened the door, that's when they discovered an apartment full of smoke and fire," said Shift Commander Dale Maynard.

The sprinkler system in the building activated and crews pulled a line and extinguished the fire.

The apartment where the fire originated received fire, smoke, and water damage. Two units below the affected apartment also received water damage due to the sprinkler activation.

At least four residents have been displaced, but did not require assistance from the Red Cross.

According to Maynard, the fire appears to have started in the bathroom and is believed to be accidental.

The Fire Marshal's Office will investigate.
